“Surrogates” will be available on DVD and Blu-ray Hi-Def in January. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment announced it will release the Bruce Willis action movie on January 26. The movie, referred to by Collider.com critic Matt Goldberg as “high-octane action,” will come complete with a variety of special features for an enhanced viewing experience. Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele, the movie is set in a futuristic society where robot bodies outnumber those of actual humans. The robots, surrogates, are made in the likeness of people who control them from their home. Without any risk of danger, the surrogates allow users to experience an exciting life without any kind of repercussions. Among the users is FBI agent Tom Greer (Willis), who is called upon to solve a mystery involving the surrogates, which are beginning to malfunction, killing their users. And when he can no longer use his own surrogate, Greer has to rely on his own senses and strengths to follow through in the investigation. Also starring Radha Mitchell, James Cromwell, Rosamund Pike and Ving Rhames, the movie is directed by “U-571″ and “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” filmmaker Jonathan Mostow. The DVD is set to include audio commentary from Mostow, as well as the music video for Breaking Benjamin’s “I Will Not Bow.” The Blu-ray will include the same features, along with exclusive deleted scenes; “Breaking the Frame: A Graphic Novel Comes to Life,” an animated, three-dimensional look at how “Surrogates” made the transition from paper to film; and the featurette “A More Perfect You: The Science of Surrogates,” which details the real-life science of surrogate science and explains how the story’s technology is not too far from reality. “Surrogates” is set to retail for $29.99 for the DVD and $39.99 for the Blu-ray.
